Some Dar roads to be closed temporarily for summit

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Police Force has announced temporary road closures in Dar es Salaam due to the visit of several Heads of State and Heads of Government Leaders who will participate in the Energy Summit, which is scheduled to begin today and wind up tomorrow at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC).
According to a statement released by the Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone over the weekend, some roads will be temporarily closed from January 25 to 30, 2025, to accommodate the motorcades of the visiting leaders.
The affected roads include Nyerere Road, from Julius Nyerere International Airport to the city centre, Sokoine Road, Kivukoni Road and Lithuli Road from the Gerezani junction to Johari Rotana Hotel, Hyatt Regency and Magogoni State House.
Other roads impacted by the closures include Ohio Road from Kivukoni to Serena Hotel, Ghana Road from Ohio Road to Onomo Hotel and Bibi Titi Road from the junction of Ohio Road and Ally Hassan Mwinyi Road to the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The statement further said that Azikiwe Road to Four Points Hotel, Golden Tulip City Centre Hotel and Holiday Inn Hotel will be closed, along with Morogoro Road from Sokoine to Tiffany No 1 Hotel, Makunganya Road from Azikiwe to Tiffany No 2 Hotel and Garden Road from Lithuli Road to Southern Sun Hotel and JNICC.
During the summit, road users are advised to use alternative routes, including Uhuru Road, Kawawa Road through Magomeni, Kigogo towards Temeke, Morogoro and Msimbazi Roads, as well as Morogoro and Lumumba Roads. Drivers coming from Chanika are also advised to use the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project route leading to Mandela and Uhuru Roads.
For security reasons, motorcycles (bodabodas) and three-wheeled vehicles (Autorickshaw) will not be allowed into the city centre during the summit.
Motorcyclists and Autorickshaw are advised to stop at designated points, including Selander Bridge on Ally Hassan Mwinyi Road, Jangwani on Morogoro Road, and Kigogo Sambusa on Kawawa Road.
Additional drop-off points include Ilala Boma on Uhuru Road from Buguruni, Veta Junction on Nyerere Road from the airport and Mivinjeni on Kilwa Road.
The Special Police Zone urges the public to adhere to these guidelines and assures that efforts will be made to manage alternative routes and minimise traffic congestion as much as possible. The Police also extend a warm welcome to the visiting delegates.
