Mwinyi lauds NMB for supporting government initiatives

ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi has praised NMB Bank for its continued support of government initiatives, including the 61st Anniversary celebrations of the Zanzibar Revolution.
Dr Mwinyi made the remarks yesterday after leading thousands of Zanzibaris in the National Exercise Day held at Mnazi Mmoja grounds in Wete District, North Pemba Region.
“The Zanzibar government recognises and appreciates NMB’s vital contributions to the development and welfare of Zanzibaris, confident that this cooperation will endure,” he stated.
The National Exercise Day and the Mapinduzi Cup tournament have been sponsored by NMB Bank as part of the ongoing celebrations marking 61 years since the Zanzibar Revolution, culminating on January 12th.

Dr Mwinyi commended NMB for funding the exercises and providing 100 tracksuits for leaders, valued at 9m/-.
Additionally, the bank sponsored the Revolution Cup 2025 with a 50m/- contribution, prompting him to encourage continued collaboration.
“I commend NMB for its unwavering support of Zanzibar government initiatives. Their contribution to this event is vital for the health of Zanzibaris and the attire they provided has enhanced our presentation,” he noted.
NMB’s Zanzibar Regional Manager, Ms Naima Said Shaame, emphasised that the bank has been a long-time partner of both the Zanzibar and Union governments, having sponsored the Revolutionary Celebrations for 12 years.
“This marks the 12th year that NMB has collaborated with the SMZ to facilitate the Revolutionary Celebrations,” Ms Naima explained.
She also highlighted the 50m/- sponsorship for the Revolution Cup, noting that both the sponsorship and the tracksuits demonstrate NMB’s commitment to sports, which is vital for health and economic growth.
“It is a great honour for us to continue partnering with the government through 12 years of NMB being integral to these events,” Ms Naima concluded.
Recently, NMB Bank’s Zanzibar Branch Manager, Mr Ahmed Jumaa Nassor, handed over the 100 tracksuits and a dummy cheque of 50m/- for the Revolution Cup sponsorship to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports Zanzibar, Ms Fatma Hamad Rajabu.
