Kidia nature trails to attract more tourists at Mt Kilimanjaro

THE government through Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) is constructing new Kidia nature trails to climb Mount Kilimanjaro that will be used by high-end tourists and celebrities with the aim of opening up investment opportunities.

Highlighting the sixth phase government success, the TANAPA Assistant Commissioner, Dr Noelia Myonga said that implementation of the new Kidia nature trails project is progressing well as they have already received funds from the government.

“This trail will stretch 38 kilometers, and when completed, it will open investment opportunities and increase the national income,” she said.

Dr Myonga said that during the sixth phase government there has also been an increase in the number of domestic tourists, from 415,385 tourists in July 2021 to 625,510 in June last year.

She explained that the increase of domestic tourists has been contributed by various government efforts to advertise its attractions, including the Royal Tour documentary starred by President Samia Suluhu Hassan.

She noted that in the past two years, TANAPA has also continued to promote the scope of tourism products by introducing the rhino tourism in the Mkomazi National Park.

“The rhino tourism will enable visitors to see rhino easily, something which will help to increase the number of tourists hence increase the nation’s income,” she said.

“TANAPA has also introduced bicycle tourism in Arusha National Park and boat and sports tourism at the Saanane National Park in Mwanza,” she added.

She said the authority in collaboration with other tourist stakeholders has been using social networks such as Twitter, Instagram, You Tube, Facebook and Tiktok to promote national tourists’ attraction.

Dr Myonga explained that TANAPA continues to create an enabling environment to attract local and foreign investors as well as private and public sectors to invest in tourism accommodation to increase the number of cottages, hotels and camps that will expand the scope of revenue collection.
