ICGLR calls for inclusive strategies that facilitate women’s access to economic opportunities

DAR ES SALAAM: WOMEN MPs from the Forum of Parliaments of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (FP-ICGLR) have stressed that women’s participation in economic activities is a key pillar for promoting development, prosperity and stability across the Great Lakes Region.

They emphasised the need to strengthen empowerment initiatives to ensure that women from different backgrounds benefit from development opportunities.

The MPs made the remarks during a discussion on Women and Economic Resilience – Regional Approaches to Women’s Socio-Economic Empowerment, held in Dar es Salaam today, November 4, 2026. The discussion was part of the FP-ICGLR Women MPs Conference currently taking place in the city.

They identified childcare responsibilities, family care duties and the lack of robust social protection systems as some of the challenges limiting women’s full participation in economic activities.

They further noted that building women’s economic resilience requires addressing their working conditions, removing barriers they face and developing inclusive strategies that provide them with equal access to economic opportunities.
