52 special education teachers grabs skills to facilitate inclusion in schools

DAR ES SALAAM: AN inclusive education training organised by Special Olympics Tanzania (SOT) has benefited 52 Special Education teachers from Temeke and Ilala Districts in Dar es Salaam.
The training held recently at Jakaya Kikwete Youth Park falls under Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools project which emphasizes on social inclusion and inclusive sports for students with intellectual disabilities.
The program is supported by United Arab Emirates president Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and bankrolled through initiatives like the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity (MBZFH).
In his words, SOT Director of Sports Deogratius Mdemu urged participants to keep on training intellectual disabled students on how they can easily engage in sporting activities with unified partners.
“There is a strong need to impart the spirit of inclusion in sports and education so that learners with intellectual disabilities should be part of this essential program,” he said.
One of the trainees Eugene Stephano commended SOT for equipping them with practicable ways on how to facilitate inclusion culture among students with intellectual disabilities and their unified partners.
“We have learnt modern methods which are easy to be applied as we aim to create an inclusive school environment whereby all learners should be treated equally.
