Tanzania broaden its public awareness campaign on EAC Draft Constitution to Mtwara residents

MTWARA: THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation has continued to educate the public on the Draft Constitution of the East African Community (EAC) Political Confederation, engaging various stakeholders in Mtwara Region as part of efforts to deepen public understanding and encourage citizens’ participation in the regional integration process.
The exercise, held today, November 2, 2026, was officially opened by Newala District Commissioner Musa Ramadhani Sima, who represented Mtwara Regional Commissioner Colonel Donald Msengi. It brought together government leaders, private sector representatives, religious institutions, civil society organisations, youth, women and special interest groups.
Through the exercise, participants had an opportunity to learn about the principles and objectives of the EAC Political Confederation, as well as the anticipated stages of the draft Constitution process. This is intended to enable them to participate effectively by submitting their views and recommendations.

The public awareness initiative also seeks to build broader understanding of the importance of the Political Confederation in strengthening cooperation among EAC Partner States, while giving different social groups an opportunity to prepare and contribute ideas that will inform the next stages of the process.
The exercise is part of the Tanzanian government’s ongoing efforts, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, to ensure that citizens play an active role in the process towards the establishment of the East African Political Confederation.
