POEM: Is this love?

One step at a time, through smiles and laughter,
Their faces glow; I wonder what comes after.
It’s beautiful, lovely, a sight to behold,
Yet a thousand questions stir in my soul.

I see her face, and my heart takes flight,
It races like wings in the dead of night.
Is it a crush, or a smile of surprise?
Why does my heart see truth in her eyes?

In a blink, I am blind, unable to see,
Is it her that I want, or the thought of what could be?
Clarity is all that I seek,
Yet what if the truth leaves my knees weak?

Would I see things right, or mistake what I see?
Is love what it is, or what I wish it to be?
Hold your breath, steady your soul,
Love may be beautiful, but it takes its toll.

So pause, take a breath, let your heart decide,
But don’t let your hopes become truth in disguise.
For a smile is a smile; it may mean nothing at all,
Yet why does my heart rise whenever hers calls?

Is this love, or a dream I pursue?
Am I seeing her clearly, or seeing what I want to?
I long for the truth, though the truth may be cold,
For what good is a heart if the eyes are deceived by the soul?
