TCD unveils its new leadership with a call to promote peaceful, lawful political dialogues

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA Centre for Democracy (TCD) Chairperson, Dorothy Semu, has said the institution will continue to support platforms that promote dialogue, tolerance, inclusiveness, respect for political differences and the peaceful and lawful resolution of conflicts.
Semu made the remarks in Dar es Salaam on October 7, 2026, during the launch of the new leadership and logo of the Council of Political Parties, stressing the importance of building democracy through the participation of citizens, political parties, the government, civil society organisations, the media and other national institutions.
She said TCD believes a strong democracy requires permanent mechanisms for dialogue among political and social stakeholders, rather than having dialogue emerge only when conflicts occur.

According to Semu, dialogue should become part of the country’s political culture to enable stakeholders to discuss their differences, listen to one another and seek solutions through peaceful and lawful means.
She further said TCD would continue supporting initiatives aimed at creating a political environment that respects differences in opinion and enables various stakeholders to participate in matters of democracy and governance.
“Reconciliation is not about forgetting differences, reconciliation is not about abandoning positions, nor is it about forcing one side to accept the other. Reconciliation is about creating an environment where differences can be discussed, grievances can be heard, wrongs can be acknowledged and solutions sought without undermining national unity,” Semu said.
