BASATA sanctions Harmonize, Nandy over ethics breaches

DAR ES SALAAM: THE National Arts Council (BASATA) has fined musicians Rajab Abdulkahali alias Harmonize and Faustina Mfinanga (Nandy) over separate breaches of artistic ethics.

The decisions were announced by BASATA through a press statement published on its social media platforms, including Instagram, and signed by Acting Executive Secretary Edward Buganga.

Harmonize has been fined 5m/- and ordered to remove his Kudos music video from his social media platforms.

BASATA said the video breached regulations on artistic ethics by failing to uphold standards that protect the dignity of Tanzanian audiences.

The singer has also been barred from engaging in artistic activities until he complies with the decision.

BASATA said it had not received a defence or alternative explanation from Harmonize by the time the decision was issued.

Video director Kennedy Sanga, who was also sanctioned over Kudos, was fined 5m/- and ordered to remove the video from his social media platforms.

Meanwhile, Nandy has been fined 3m/- over what BASATA described as an indecent outfit worn during her performance at the Miss Universe Tanzania 2026 final in Dar es Salaam.

Unlike Harmonize, Nandy admitted the offence, removed the video from her social media platforms and paid the fine. BASATA has therefore allowed her to continue with her artistic activities, but under supervision.

The council also fined Millen Privé & Co. Lifestyle Limited, organiser of Miss Universe Tanzania, 3m/- over the incident and issued the company with a stern warning
