Serengeti Boys drawn against Djibouti, Kenya in U-17 AFCON qualifiers

DAR ES SALAAM: DEFENDING champions Tanzania have been drawn in Group C alongside Djibouti and Kenya in the CECAFA U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The draw was conducted yesterday at the Azam TV studios in Dar es Salaam, with Tanzania learning their opponents as they begin their campaign to retain the title they won last year in Ethiopia.

The CECAFA U-17 qualifiers will be held in Kigali, Rwanda, from October 10 to 20, with 10 nations set to battle for regional honours and three qualification places to the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.

Hosts Rwanda have been placed in Group A alongside Sudan, Somalia and South Sudan, while Group B comprises Uganda, Ethiopia and Burundi.

The draw was conducted by Yusuf Mossi, the Competitions Manager of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), at the Azam TV studios.

Mossi confirmed that the tournament will produce three representatives from the CECAFA zone for the continental finals.

Tanzania enter the competition as the reigning champions after defeating Uganda in last year’s final in Ethiopia.

Groups

Group A: Rwanda, Sudan, Somalia, South Sudan.

Group B: Uganda, Ethiopia, Burundi.

Group C: Tanzania, Djibouti, Kenya.
