Compensation set for Chalinze residents

COAST REGION: THE government has allocated 300m/- to compensate people whose land will be acquired for development projects in Chalinze Council, Coast Region, during the 2025/26 financial year.

Member of Parliament for Chalinze and Minister of State in the President’s Office (Public Service Management and Good Governance), Mr Ridhiwani Kikwete, announced the allocation on Wednesday during his tour of the constituency to inspect development projects. Speaking at Msoga Ward, Mr Ridhiwani said the allocation followed the government’s commitment to ensuring that citizens whose land was acquired for public projects received compensation on time.

“It is the goal of the government to ensure that while it continues to implement development projects, citizens who give up their land for these projects get their rightful dues as required,” he said.

At Talawanda Secondary School in Talawanda Ward, Mr Ridhiwani said the government had allocated 930m/- for construction and improvement of roads serving the ward, including the road leading to the school. The works will be implemented by the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), he said.

The school’s headmaster, Mr Godfrey Charles, said the institution had 977 students, comprising 606 girls and 371 boys, supported by 26 teachers. He said the school received 29.187m/- during the 2025/26 academic year for science subjects, which had supported rehabilitation, continuous assessment and the purchase of laboratory equipment and other requirements.

Mr Charles said the government would provide another 80m/- in the next academic year for improving school infrastructure. At Kisanga Village, Mr Ridhiwani inspected the construction of a dispensary that had cost 68.6m/- and had reached the finishing stage.

He said the council was prioritising primary healthcare services while also improving the district hospital. The council had allocated an additional 30m/- to complete the remaining works, including construction of an incinerator and fence, enabling the facility to begin operations.

“Medical equipment is already available. This dispensary will help save people in this area who still walk long distances to access health services,” he said. Talawanda Ward Councillor Ramadhani Biga said the council had allocated 100m/- for construction of a health centre during the 2026 financial year.
