DSE turnover surges on strong bond trading

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE) recorded 28.4bn/- in turnover on Wednesday, driven largely by high-value transactions in the government bond market.
According to the DSE daily Market Report, bond trading contributed 17.83bn/-, equities 10.18bn/- and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) 373.95m/.
Bond trading generated the highest value from just 12 deals, highlighting the concentration of trading value in fixed-income securities.

Government bonds accounted for most activity, led by a 10-year Treasury bond carrying an 11.25 per cent coupon and a face value of 12.4bn/-.
It traded at prices of 106.5433 per cent and 107.1722 per cent in two deals. Another 10-year Treasury bond, with an 11.44 per cent coupon and 5bn/- face value, traded at 114.5774 per cent.
Longer-dated securities also changed hands, including a 20-year bond carrying a 15.49 per cent coupon and 200m/- face value, which traded between 100 and 137.2336 per cent across three deals.
On the equity market, NMB led trading with 660,725 shares changing hands at 2,150/- in 1,366 deals, followed by CRDB with 306,119 shares at 2,920/- in 982 deals.
VODA traded 336,813 shares at 1,190/-, while AFRIPRISE recorded 394,056 shares at 600/-. Block trades included 900,000 NMB shares, 307,000 TBL shares and 1.55 million VODA shares.
Corporate bonds also recorded activity, with a fouryear, 13 per cent coupon bond trading at 110 per cent.
