DAR ES SALAAM: THE World Bank Group has appointed Mary-Jean Moyo as the new International Finance Corporation (IFC) Division Director for Tanzania, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Malawi, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Moyo, a Zimbabwean national, assumed the position on September 1, 2026, bringing extensive experience in development finance, private sector investment, commercial banking and institutional leadership across Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East.

She will be based in Dar es Salaam, where she will oversee IFC’s engagement across the six countries, with a focus on mobilising private sector investment and supporting businesses to create more and better jobs.

Prior to her appointment, Moyo served as Chief of Staff to the IFC Managing Director.

She previously served as IFC Regional Industry Director for Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services in the Middle East and Africa, where she supported the delivery of business and development impact targets, with a focus on financial sustainability and scaling up investments in countries eligible for support from the International Development Association (IDA) and fragile and conflict-affected situations.

In her new role, she is expected to help advance an integrated approach to mobilising private sector investment across the six countries while supporting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

The World Bank Group said the appointment reinforces its commitment to working as one institution in support of country priorities.

Through the combination of public-sector policy and investment support with IFC’s private-sector financing, investment and advisory expertise, the group aims to help create conditions for sustainable, inclusive and private-sector-led growth.

The approach also supports the World Bank Group’s jobs agenda and its broader mission of ending poverty while promoting development on a liveable planet.
