Tanzania explores its road safety system, strategies to reduce traffic congestion

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Chairperson of the National Road Safety Council and Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Ayoub Mohammed Mahmoud, has chaired a working session of the Council to assess the state of road safety in Tanzania and discuss strategies to enhance safety for road users.

The meeting, held in Dar es Salaam, discussed various measures to reduce road accidents and traffic violations, with emphasis on strengthening cooperation between the government and institutions responsible for road safety and infrastructure.

The meeting also highlighted the importance of using road accident data to assess the economic and social impact of crashes. Such data is expected to support the government and other stakeholders in developing and implementing effective strategies to reduce accidents and improve road safety.

Meanwhile, Ayoub urged leaders representing bus and truck drivers, vehicle owners and boda boda operators to ensure their members follow weather-related advisories issued by the Tanzania Meteorological Authority.

He said stakeholders should ensure that drivers take appropriate precautions and observe safety measures while carrying out their duties, particularly during periods when weather conditions could affect the safety of travel and road use.
