Yas launches two 4G towers in K’njaro steps up network investment

KILIMANJARO: RESIDENTS and businesses in Kilimanjaro are set to enjoy easier access to digital services after Yas Tanzania launched two new 4G towers in Moshi Municipality and Mwanga District, promising stronger connectivity for everyday activities.

For residents, better network services could mean faster mobile money transactions, easier communication with family and friends and improved access to online education, information and other services that increasingly form part of daily life.

For local businesses, the improved connectivity is expected to make it easier to receive digital payments, communicate with customers and suppliers, market products online and take advantage of growing opportunities in the digital economy.

The new towers are expected to expand network capacity and improve internet reliability in the two areas, helping address connectivity challenges as demand for mobile data continues to grow.

Kilimanjaro resident Mwanaisha Juma welcomed the investment, saying improved connectivity would make everyday activities easier, particularly for people relying on mobile money services.

“We used to face major communication challenges, particularly when sending and receiving money. Sometimes transactions would take longer than expected. Things have changed, and many services are now easily accessible online. We believe these improvements will make our daily lives and activities even easier,” Mwanaisha said.

Her experience reflects the growing importance of reliable connectivity to households, small businesses and institutions, as more transactions and services shift from physical to digital platforms.

Speaking during the launch, Yas Northern Zone Head Robert Sanyagi said the investment reflected changing needs among telecommunications users.

“Today, Tanzanians need more than voice services. They need fast and reliable internet for business, education, financial services and other everyday activities. That is why we continue to invest in 4G and 5G technologies to reach more people across the country,” Sanyagi said.

He said Yas would continue expanding its network in urban and underserved areas to enable more Tanzanians to benefit from the digital economy.

Speaking at the launch, Moshi East Divisional Officer Khalima Idrisa, representing the Moshi District Commissioner, said the infrastructure would strengthen connectivity and complement government efforts to improve access to reliable communication services.

Yas Tanzania said the towers form part of its continued network investment across the Northern Zone and other parts of the country, aimed at providing faster and more reliable connectivity.
