150 students to benefit from Rotary Club’s scholarships as its Goat Races target to raise 250m/-
DAR ES SALAAM: A total of 150 needy students are expected to benefit from scholarships through the 2026 Goat Races organised by the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay, with the club targets to raise 250m/- to support the programme.
The annual charity and fundraising event is scheduled to take place on September 19, 2026, at the Posta Kijitonyama Grounds in Dar es Salaam, with funds raised expected to support academically capable students facing financial difficulties to pursue higher education.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam, Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay President, Philippe Demoulin, said this year’s target is to increase the amount raised in order to reach more students.
He said last year’s Goat Races raised 158m/- after operational expenses, with the funds used to support students in paying tuition fees and meeting other educational expenses.
“We hope to increase that amount to 250m/- this year so that we can enable more students to access higher education opportunities,” he said.
Demoulin said the scholarship programme has continued to grow in recent years, with 26 students benefiting in 2023, 43 in 2024 and 92 in 2025.

He said the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay has so far supported more than 400 students through the scholarship programme.
According to Demoulin, beneficiaries are selected based on academic performance and their families’ financial circumstances, ensuring that talented young people do not abandon their education because of financial difficulties.
“We organise these races as volunteers, not for personal gain, but to support the community and empower young people through education,” he said.
He said the Goat Races, which were launched in 2018, have grown into one of Dar es Salaam’s major social and fundraising events, bringing together companies, families and members of the public.
Rotary has called on companies, institutions and members of the public to contribute towards achieving the 250m/- target and enabling 150 students to receive scholarships.
