Teachers equipped to improve maths performance
SINGIDA: PRIMARY school teachers in Mkalama District are being equipped with new mathematics teaching skills in a drive to improve pupils’ performance in the subject.
The training, conducted under the Shule Bora Programme, brought together teachers handling Standards Three to Seven and focused on participatory teaching approaches to teaching mathematics.
Speaking while opening the training session, Mkalama District Primary Education Officer Ms Jusline Bandiko urged teachers to put the new skills into practice to improve pupils’ performance in mathematics.
“Let this training inspire us to help children see mathematics as an easier subject and give them the confidence to succeed in it.”
Ms Bandiko said She said the knowledge gained through the training should help improve teaching quality and raise pupils’ performance across primary schools in the district.

“As we leave here, each of us should have the goal of improving mathematics teaching so that our students perform well in the subject.” She said.
Shule Bora is a government programme that seeks to strengthen the primary education system and improve teaching and learning outcomes by working with ministries, local authorities and development partners.
The six-year programme supports more than 6,000 schools across the country through teacher training, inclusive education and data-driven planning, with funding linked to measurable learning outcomes.
