Tanzania’s cultural tapestry takes centre stage in Morogoro

MOROGORO: MOROGORO is set to become a showcase of Tanzania’s rich cultural diversity as the Fourth National Cultural Festival brings together cultural groups, artists, entrepreneurs, young people and visitors for five days of celebrations from August 25 to 29.

The festival, whose official opening will take place at Jamhuri Stadium on Wednesday, will feature more than 120 activities celebrating Tanzania’s traditions, arts, food, music, fashion and heritage.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, told reporters in Morogoro yesterday that the festival aims to promote culture while creating opportunities for Tanzanians.

“The festival is not just about entertainment. It is about our identity, our values, our economy and our opportunities,” Msigwa said.

He said the event would bring together representatives from all 26 regions, 28 cultural groups, 30 artists, 70 entrepreneurs and thousands of young people, alongside members of the public and visitors.

Msigwa said the festival was part of the government’s efforts to preserve, develop and promote Tanzanian culture while strengthening national identity, good values and social cohesion.

“We want Tanzanians to know and appreciate their culture, to understand their identity and to protect our traditions, customs and national heritage,” he said.
