Chalinze-Dodoma’s 400-kv power line connects JNHPP to the Tanzanian capital

DODOMA: THE 400-kilovolt (kV) electricity transmission line from Chalinze to Dodoma has been completed, paving the way for power generated at the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant (JNHPP) to reach Dodoma through Chalinze, the Ministry of Energy has said.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy responsible for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, made the statement while inspecting the final stages of the Chalinze-Dodoma power transmission project, which covers 345 kilometres.
The inspection also covered expansion works at the Chalinze Substation in Pwani Region and the Zuzu Substation in Dodoma.
Mramba said construction of the transmission line had reached 99 percent completion, while expansion of the Zuzu Substation had reached 98 percent, with technical teams having completed preparations to begin energising and testing the system.
“Zuzu Substation is now at the final stage of completion. The experts have informed me that they will begin trial energisation at the substation. Electricity will start reaching Dodoma from the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant through Chalinze and onward to Dodoma,” Mramba said.

He said completion of the 400kV transmission line represents a major step in strengthening Tanzania’s electricity transmission infrastructure.
The line will receive electricity generated at the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Plant and transmit it from Chalinze to Dodoma, where the power will be integrated into the national grid before being distributed to various parts of the country.
The project is expected to enhance the capacity and reliability of the national transmission network while facilitating the evacuation and distribution of electricity generated by the JNHPP to consumers across Tanzania.
