Tshisekedi jets in Tanzania for talks on socio-economic issues, peace and security in the Great Lakes

ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT  of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Félix Antoine Tshisekedi, has arrived in Tanzania for a two-day working visit at the invitation of Tanzanian President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan.

President Tshisekedi arrived in Zanzibar through Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, where he was received by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Dr Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Tanzania’s Ambassador to the DRC, Said Mshana, and other government officials.

During his visit, President Tshisekedi is expected to hold talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan on various areas of cooperation between Tanzania and the DRC. The discussions are expected to focus on trade and investment, agriculture and food security, mining, energy, transport and infrastructure, healthcare, and digital technology.

In addition to economic and social issues, the two leaders are expected to discuss peace and security in the Great Lakes region, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest to Tanzania and the DRC.

The visit is also expected to provide an opportunity to explore new areas for strengthening cooperation across various sectors, while reviewing progress in implementing agreements and cooperation programmes already reached between the two countries.

Overall, President Tshisekedi’s visit is aimed at strengthening the historic, fraternal and strategic relations between Tanzania and the DRC, while promoting economic and social cooperation for the benefit of the people of both countries.
