TRA targets to surpass its 42tri/- revenue target for  2026/27 after its 3.245tri/- July haul

ZANZIBAR: THE Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has expressed its confidence of surpassing its 42tr/- revenue collection target for the 2026/27 financial year after collecting 3.245tr/- in July, exceeding its monthly target by nine per cent.

This was revealed during the laying of the foundation stone for the construction of the TRA Office Building in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar worth 3.6bn/- upon completion.

Speaking during the ceremony, the TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Mwenda said the authority collected the amount against a target of 2.971tri/-, equivalent to 109 per cent of the monthly target and a 21 per cent increase and attributed the performance to close cooperation between the government, Parliament and taxpayers, expressing confidence that the authority would maintain the momentum throughout the financial year.

“We are confident of surpassing that target,” the Commissioner General said.

Additionally, Mr Mwenda said TRA also collected 325bn/- in July, equivalent to 70 per cent of the total collections, which was channeled directly to 11 infrastructure development funds supporting sectors including roads, water and tourism.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar, commended TRA for its revenue collection performance, saying continued cooperation between the authority and taxpayers would enable the government to exceed the annual target.

Meanwhile, the Kizimkazi TRA office is part of a nationwide programme to construct 49 office buildings at a cost of more than 32bn/-.

The offices are intended to improve tax administration and bring services closer to taxpayers.
