Immigration official tours Arusha Airport to assess how it monitors passengers entering and leaving Tanzania

ARUSHA: THE Arusha Regional Immigration Officer, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (SACI) Antony Kasitu, has visited Arusha Airport to introduce himself, assess immigration operations and emphasise the delivery of efficient services to passengers entering and leaving the country.

During the visit, SACI Kasitu inspected activities carried out by immigration officers and personnel at the airport, including border control, travel document verification and procedures governing the entry and departure of foreign nationals.

Addressing immigration staff stationed at the airport, SACI Kasitu urged them to ensure that immigration services are delivered efficiently and professionally while adhering to immigration laws and procedures.

He also stressed the importance of properly utilising modern border control systems and strengthening cooperation between the Immigration Department and other institutions operating at the airport.

SACI Kasitu said airport operations require a high level of vigilance because airports are among the country’s key entry and exit points. He urged every immigration officer to perform their duties with diligence, professionalism and integrity to safeguard the country’s borders while ensuring quality services for travellers.

The visit was among SACI Kasitu’s initial activities since he officially assumed the position of Arusha Regional Immigration Officer. It was aimed at familiarising himself with various stations and locations where immigration functions are carried out across the region.

SACI Kasitu was accompanied during the visit by Senior Assistant Commissioner of Immigration (SACI) Charles Obado from the Border Management and Control Division at Immigration Headquarters. Obado recently handed over the Arusha Regional Immigration Office to SACI Kasitu.

The visit also provided an opportunity for the formal handover of Arusha Airport to SACI Kasitu as one of the facilities under the supervision of the Arusha Regional Immigration Officer.

The move is expected to strengthen immigration operations at Arusha Airport, particularly border management and control, while placing greater emphasis on efficient, professional and law-compliant services for passengers using the facility.
