Tanzanian Parliamentary orders a timely completion of 64 district-level’s VETA colleges

DODOMA: THE Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Culture and Sports has directed the completion of construction of 64 district VETA colleges and the Songwe Regional VETA College to enable them to start offering skills training tailored to local economic opportunities.

The directive was issued by the committee, chaired by Husna Sekiboko, after receiving and discussing a report from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on the progress of construction of the colleges.

The committee stressed that courses offered at the institutions must reflect the economic activities, opportunities and needs of individual districts to ensure vocational training delivers tangible benefits to local communities.

The completion of the colleges is expected to create new opportunities for skills development and employment, particularly among young people, while accelerating economic development at district and regional levels.

The committee also received a report on the Strategy for Development of Vocational Education at Secondary School Level and commended the ministry for introducing the new strategy aimed at strengthening vocational skills training in secondary schools.
