Pemba’s increased tax compliance hailed for advancing services in transport, education, health sectors
PEMBA: INCREASED tax compliance by residents has helped accelerate development in South Pemba, with improvements recorded in roads, education and health services.
This was disclosed by South Pemba Regional Commissioner, Rashid Hadidi Rashid, in a discussion with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) Commissioner General Yusuph Mwenda at his office in Pemba.
Speaking at the meeting, the RC stated that the region had witnessed significant infrastructure and social service improvements in recent years as more residents embraced tax payments to support development.
According to the RC, the improved social services has also made South Pemba increasingly attractive to investors, whose businesses were contributing to increased tax revenues.
The Regional Commissioner said the regional government had continued working with TRA to educate residents on the importance of paying taxes, pledging to strengthen the partnership to support further development.
For his part, Commissioner General Mwenda commended the regional government for working with TRA to raise public awareness on tax compliance.
He also thanked taxpayers for their continued trust in TRA and for voluntarily meeting their tax obligations.
Mr Mwenda said TRA would continue improving tax services by listening to taxpayers and addressing their challenges.
He said the authority would also continue supporting businesses through its Business Facilitation Desk, which is aimed at helping taxpayers overcome challenges and improve their business operations.
