Africa50 notes success in capital mobilization, infrastructure projects over past decade

DAR ES SALAAM: Africa50 Chief Executive Officer Alain Ebobissé has said the institution has made significant progress over the past decade in accelerating project development, mobilising capital and attracting investment for infrastructure projects that drive economic growth and sustainable development across Africa.

Speaking at the Africa50 Annual General Shareholders Meeting and the Africa Infrastructure Forum, taking place on August 5–6, 2026, at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC) in Dar es Salaam, Ebobissé said the achievements demonstrate the capacity of African institutions to lead the continent’s infrastructure development agenda.

He thanked the Government of Tanzania for hosting the event, saying the country’s strategic position as a gateway linking East, Central and Southern Africa makes it an ideal venue for bringing together leaders, investors and development partners to discuss the future of infrastructure on the continent.

Ebobissé said hosting the forum in Tanzania reflects Africa’s growing position as a hub for investment opportunities, particularly in the infrastructure sector, while providing an important platform for building partnerships, sharing experiences and identifying new opportunities for implementing strategic projects.

He noted that over the past 10 years, Africa50 has successfully developed projects that meet international standards, mobilised capital from both within and outside the continent, and attracted investment needed to implement critical infrastructure projects.

According to Ebobissé, the next priority is to accelerate the implementation of infrastructure projects, strengthen Africa’s financial institutions and create an enabling environment that will allow the continent to finance a greater share of its own development.

He called on governments, investors, financial institutions and development partners to deepen their collaboration in preparing and implementing high-impact projects, particularly in the energy, transport and other strategic sectors that are essential for Africa’s economic transformation.
