AG, CMT review legal reforms to enable Tanzania bolster its capital markets in line with its Vision 2050

DAR ES SALAAM: ATTORNEY General Hamza Johari has met with the Registrar of the Capital Markets Tribunal (CMT), Dr Martin Wilbert Kolikoli, to discuss the tribunal’s operations and legal reforms aimed at strengthening Tanzania’s capital markets in line with the country’s Vision 2050.

During the meeting in Dar es Salaam, Mr Johari said the Office of the Attorney General is reviewing various laws to facilitate the implementation of Vision 2050 and improve efficiency in public service delivery.

He stressed that capital markets are a key instrument in achieving the country’s long-term development agenda, noting that the legal framework governing the sector must keep pace with Vision 2050 and evolving global economic trends.

For his part, Dr Kolikoli outlined the tribunal’s mandate and highlighted achievements recorded during the three years since its establishment.

He also proposed amendments to laws governing capital markets, securities and commodity exchanges, particularly in areas related to the protection of investors’ rights and dispute resolution mechanisms.

During the meeting, Dr Kolikoli presented the Attorney General with the Capital Markets Tribunal’s publication and called for closer collaboration between the Office of the Attorney General and the tribunal in promoting public awareness of capital market issues.

The two sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening the legal and institutional framework governing Tanzania’s capital markets to support investment, enhance investor confidence and contribute to sustainable economic development.
