Police nab 83 suspects of criminal offences in July operations
DAR ES SALAAM: DAR ES SALAAM Special Zone arrested 83 suspects linked to various criminal offences during operations conducted in July, as authorities reported that security in the city remains stable due to continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the public.
Addressing media outlets in Dar es Salaam, Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police Commander, SACP Jumanne Muliro, said the prevailing peace and security reflect the growing collaboration between the Police Force, residents and other stakeholders committed to maintaining law and order.
He said the suspects are facing allegations including armed robbery, burglary and theft, murder, rape, sodomy and possession of cannabis.
The Police Commander said investigations are continuing into the seizure of 75 kilogrammes of skunk cannabis in the Matumbi area of Temeke District, warning that all individuals involved in processing, transporting and trafficking the narcotics will face the full force of the law.
SACP Muliro added that police had also arrested suspects linked to housebreaking, theft and the illegal trade in stolen property, including mobile phones, television sets, motorcycles, laptop computers and radios.
Among those arrested is Mtanko Ebeniel, popularly known as “Mchina”, together with two accomplices from Amani Street in Mbezi, Ubungo District. The suspects were found in possession of seven television sets, 122 smartphones and equipment allegedly used to erase and reinstall operating systems on stolen mobile phones to conceal their identities.
On prosecution of criminal cases, SACP Muliro said several suspects whose cases were concluded in court had been convicted and sentenced to various prison terms.

He said Albert Lisaliko of Kigamboni was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Kigamboni District Court after being convicted of sodomy, while Said Shaban of Mbezi Magufuli received a 30-year prison sentence from the Ubungo District Court for armed robbery.
He further said Medson Mkumbo of Goba was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ubungo District Court for sodomy, while Harun Mustafa of Mbagala Charambe received a life sentence from the Temeke District Court for the same offence.
The Police Commander also warned of an increase in fraudulent schemes involving fake mineral trading, vehicle sales, land transactions, agricultural produce, cargo transportation from ports to neighbouring countries, fraudulent loans secured using other people’s land titles, and illegal investment schemes.
He said police had declared a crackdown on all individuals involved in such crimes and urged the public to exercise caution when conducting business transactions or applying for loans.
SACP Muliro thanked members of the public for their continued cooperation with the Police Force and appealed to residents to continue providing timely information on suspected criminal activities to enable law enforcement agencies to respond promptly and prevent crime across the city.
