Police arrest bus driver over Dodoma deadly crash

DODOMA: POLICE have arrested the driver of Isamilo Express bus for alleged reckless driving following a head-on collision that killed nine people and injured several others at Ibihwa Village in Bahi District, Dodoma Region, on Sunday morning.
According to a statement issued by police late Sunday, the Mwanza-bound bus from Dar es Salaam was attempting to overtake recklessly when it collided head-on with an oncoming Libanika Luxury bus. Police confirmed that five men and four women died in the crash.
The Chief Medical Officer of Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital, Dr Ernest Ibenzi, confirmed that the facility had received the injured survivors and the bodies of those who died in the crash.
He said the injured were receiving treatment in various hospital departments according to the nature and severity of their injuries.

Health workers, police officers, the Fire and Rescue Force and other security and defence agencies responded swiftly to the scene, carrying out rescue operations and transporting the injured to the hospital.
Dodoma Regional Com missioner and Chairperson of the Regional Security and Defence Committee, Ms Rosemary Senyamule, visited the accident scene before meeting survivors admitted to Dodoma Regional Referral Hospital.
She urged medical personnel to continue providing the best possible care to those still undergoing treatment and called on drivers, vehicle owners and all road users to strictly observe traffic regulations to help prevent road accidents and save lives.
