Dr Samia banks on private sector to achieve Tanzania’s Vision 2050 goals
DAR ES SALAAM: President Samia Suluhu Hassan has launched the Vision 2050 implementation instruments and a special public-private dialogue in Dar es Salaam and said that the private sector will play a central role in implementing Tanzania Development Vision 2050.
She called on businesses to increase investment, innovation and production capacity to help build a competitive and resilient economy.
Speaking during the special dialogue between the government and private sector on the implementation of Vision 2050 the Head of State noted that the private sector has been assigned a major role in achieving the country’s long-term development aspirations.
She said the implementation of the vision, which began on July 1, 2026, is a 25-year journey aimed at transforming Tanzania economically, socially and politically.
“The goal is to build a Tanzania with a competitive, inclusive and resilient economy. I have listened to the challenges presented here, and many of them we are taking on board for action,” she said.
President Samia said the private sector is expected to contribute about 70 per cent towards the implementation of Vision 2050, urging businesses to use the available opportunities to increase investment in the country.
She assured investors that the government would continue improving the legal, policy and institutional environment to attract both domestic and foreign investment and support the achievement of the targets outlined in the vision.
“Our main objective is to have investments that connect large and small producers, as well as large and small businesses. We want to build bridges and bring them closer together, including through formalisation of sectors that are currently informal,” she said.
The President said the government also wants investments that develop local skills, including empowering young people, women and people with disabilities to participate fully in production value chains.
She emphasised that successful implementation of Vision 2050 requires a private sector equipped with knowledge, innovation and the ability to develop products and services that compete in domestic, regional and international markets.
Moreover, she pledged continued government cooperation with the private sector, expressing her ambition to see Tanzanian businesses expand beyond national borders and compete globally.
“We will work together to build the private sector. I want to see Tanzanian entrepreneurs move beyond our borders and compete internationally,” she said.
