Dr Mwinyi calls for stronger ties between Tanzania Mainland and the Isles
ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation and communication between the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to enhance the implementation of joint priorities and safeguard the interests of citizens.
Dr Mwinyi made the remarks today during a meeting at the State House in Zanzibar with Charles Ngeleja Kadonya, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation responsible for East African Community affairs, who paid him a courtesy visit following his appointment to the post.
The President said the strengthened cooperation between the two sides of the Union has played a key role in resolving a number of longstanding challenges while improving the efficiency of implementing matters of mutual interest.
He also urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation to ensure that Zanzibar is fully involved in discussions and planning for regional development projects so that it can benefit fully from opportunities available through the East African Community (EAC).

Dr Mwinyi further expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation among EAC member states, stressing the need to sustain and deepen regional collaboration to promote greater integration and deliver more benefits to the people of the region.
During the meeting, the President wished Mr Kadonya success in his new role and encouraged him to maintain close communication with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar in addressing Union matters and advancing regional cooperation.
For his part, Mr Kadonya assured Dr Mwinyi that he would continue strengthening collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, while safeguarding Tanzania’s interests within the East African Community.
