Tanzania insists on respectful provision of services to its retirees

TANGA: THE Finance Minister, Khamis Mussa Omar, has directed the Accountant General’s Department and Regional Treasury offices to ensure retirees receiving pension payments through the Treasury continue to receive quality services delivered with respect, dignity and professionalism.

The Minister issued the directive during his working visit to the Tanga Regional Treasury Office, where he met with staff and emphasised the need to prioritise retirees, whom he described as an important group that deserves recognition for their contribution to national development during their public service careers.

Ambassador Omar said providing efficient and respectful services to retirees would improve their welfare and strengthen public confidence in the government.

He urged Treasury staff to serve retirees with patience, provide accurate guidance and assist them in completing verification procedures without unnecessary difficulties.

The Minister also directed officials to continue educating retirees on how to avoid fraudsters who pose as pension service agents, stressing that pension services and verification processes do not require retirees to pay money to any individual.

“Retirees should be informed that they do not need to give money to anyone for pension services or verification. All official procedures are provided through the appropriate channels,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Accountant General, Leonard Mkude, who is also the supervisor of Regional Treasury offices across the country, thanked the Minister for visiting the Tanga office and engaging with staff, saying the move had motivated them to continue improving service delivery.

CPA Mkude said the support provided by the Minister in enabling staff to access training opportunities locally and abroad had strengthened their skills and enhanced their capacity to serve citizens effectively.

He pledged that Treasury staff in Tanga would continue carrying out their duties with integrity, accountability and humility to ensure citizens, particularly retirees receiving pensions through the Treasury, obtain timely services and the respect they deserve.
