Dr Nchimbi calls on Tanzanian youths to embrace emerging technologies; AI and telemedicine

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA’S Vice-President Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi has called on Tanzanian youths to embrace emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and telemedicine, to drive the transformation of Africa’s health sector and improve healthcare delivery.
The VP made the call in Dar es Salaam today, July 16, 2026, when addressing various participants at the Fourth Benjamin William Mkapa Legacy Forum noting that the former President Benjamin William Mkapa will continue to be remembered for his strong commitment to fighting both communicable and non-communicable diseases, including establishing the Tanzania Commission for AIDS (TACAIDS) to strengthen the national response against HIV and AIDS.
“Mkapa’s leadership provides important lessons on the role of good health in national development. There is a need to prepare young professionals to lead the health sector through mentorship and specialised training,” he said.

Additionally, he urged youth toE take advantage of opportunities created by technological advancement, including artificial intelligence, digital health services and other innovations that are reshaping healthcare systems globally.
The Vice-President stressed that investment in human resources for health must remain a national priority to secure the future of Tanzania’s development.
