PM rallies private sector behind Dira 2050

DAR ES SALAAM: PRIME Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the private sector, saying sustained reforms will improve Tanzania’s business and investment climate and accelerate the implementation of Vision 2050.

Speaking at the 2026 Annual Business and Investment Conference organised by the Tanzania National Chamber of Commerce (TNCC) in Dar es Salaam, Dr Nchemba said the government will continue implementing policy, legal and regulatory reforms to position the private sector as the main driver of economic growth.

He said the government is shifting from a regulatory to a facilitative approach by reducing bureaucracy, expanding digital services and improving efficiency in institutions serving businesses and investors.

“The private sector agenda is a national agenda. We cannot achieve the goals of Vision 2050 without a strong and empowered private sector, working hand in hand with government,” Dr Nchemba said.

He pledged continued engagement with businesses to address investment bottlenecks, improve the operating environment and enhance the competitiveness of Tanzanian products in regional and international markets.

The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of peace, stability and national unity, saying they remain essential for attracting investment, promoting trade and sustaining economic growth. Minister for Industry and Trade Ms Judith Kapinga said the government is strengthening collaboration with the private sector while reforming public institutions to improve service delivery.

“We are committed to ensuring that public institutions operate with a facilitation mindset rather than creating obstacles to business. Our focus is to make Tanzania a competitive investment destination,” she said, adding that digital transformation is helping reduce delays and improve efficiency.

TNCC President Vincent Minja said the chamber has introduced administrative and digital reforms aimed at improving services for members and enhancing the competitiveness of local businesses.

He said TNCC will continue working closely with the government and development partners to create more opportunities for domestic and foreign investors. During the conference, Dr Nchemba launched the TNCC Digital System, an online platform designed to simplify member registration, issuance of certificates of origin and other business services.

He also witnessed the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding between TNCC and public and private institutions to promote investment, innovation, research and private sector development.
