Tanzania cherishes AFCON co-hosting as it will promote its tourism, heritage globally

MWANZA: TANZANIA said it cherishes co-hosting the 2027 AFCON finals since the continental level tournament offers a great opportunity to promote Tanzania internationally through various sectors including tourism and investment, so it is the responsibility of each sector to ensure that it is enthusiastic and fully participates in making the tournament a success.

The Chairman of the National Committee of Secretaries General for the Preparation of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027), Dr. Jim Yonazi said today, July 1, 2026 during a visit by the Committee comprising the Secretaries General of the sectors and some heads of institutions when they visited and inspected the progress of preparations for the tournament, including checking the infrastructure and sports facilities that will be used in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2027) to make this major football tournament in Africa a success.

Dr. Yonazi said in order to make AFCON 2027 a success, every sector should put together their efforts in preparing for the tournament, considering its benefits, including boosting the economy of the community and the country as a whole.

During the visit, the Committee reviewed the progress of improvements at Major General Isamuhyo Stadium, Law School Grounds, Leaders Club Grounds, Gymkhana Club Grounds, Farasi pamoja grounds and Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium to assess the readiness of the infrastructure that will be used during the tournament.

“AFCON 2027 is more than a football tournament; it is a platform to promote Tanzania to the world, so every institution should fulfill its responsibility to ensure that the country benefits from this opportunity,” said Dr. Yonazi.

For his part, the Director of Sports Development from the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Mr. Boniface Tamba, said that infrastructure improvements are progressing well and that the construction of roads leading to and from the centers as well as the sports grounds has reached the final stages of completion.

“Preparations are progressing rapidly and the necessary infrastructure is in the final stages to ensure that Tanzania is ready to host AFCON 2027 to the required standards,” said Mr. Tamba.

The Committee of Secretaries General continues with the inspection tour of the AFCON 2027 infrastructure, where after completing the inspection in Dar es Salaam Region, it will visit Zanzibar before concluding the tour with a visit to the existing stadiums in Arusha.
