‘No compromise on security’

IKUNGI: PRIME Minister Dr Mwigulu Nchemba has said the government will continue safeguarding peace, security and the nation’s resources, warning that it will not tolerate acts that threaten the country’s security.
Dr Nchemba made the remarks yesterday while addressing residents of Ikungi District in Singida Region during his working tour of the region.
He said the government has continued to monitor reports of individuals allegedly planning or financing activities that could disrupt national peace, adding that security organs will continue taking action in accordance with the law against anyone found to be involved.
The PM said investigations had uncovered individuals who were allegedly seeking to use Tanzanian youth to advance their personal interests, stressing that the government will continue taking measures to safeguard the country and its citizens.
“We will not take such people lightly. We have been entrusted with the responsibility of protecting our country and its people and we will not compromise on that duty,” he pointed out.
Dr Nchemba said national security concerns every Tanzanian and should not be viewed through political or other interests. “This is not a matter for jokes, nor is it one that has two sides or competing interests.
National security concerns every Tanzanian,” he added.
He called on Tanzanians to reject any activities that could threaten peace, saying the government would continue taking firm action against anyone found attempting to create instability.
Dr Nchemba said the government has no dispute with any political party because political parties are recognised under the Constitution of the country.
“We have no quarrel with any political party. But our priority is the security of Tanzania and the safety of Tanzanians,” he said.
Equally, he urged wananchi to continue cooperating with security organs by providing information on activities that could threaten peace and to continue with their daily economic activities without fear.
Dr Nchemba also said the government will continue implementing development projects in Singida Region, including the construction and rehabilitation of roads, the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), airport infrastructure and water, health and education projects aimed at improving public services and stimulating economic growth.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Regional Administration and Local Government), Dr Jafar Seif, said the government will continue working with Singida regional leaders to ensure development funds are channelled to the projects that directly benefit wananchi.
He elaborated that the 10 per cent loans issued by local government authorities will continue to reach eligible beneficiaries on time right into the remote parts of the country.
