Tanzania, Finland agree to promote sustainable development for smallholder farmers

DAR ES SALAAM: THE ongoing partnership between Tanzania and Finland has been said to demonstrate a shared commitment to promoting sustainable development, especially for smallholder farmers and communities involved in forest management.
This was stated by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Hassan Abbasi, with the Co-Chairman, the Deputy Ambassador of Finland, Tomi Lounio, while chairing the Second Session of the Steering Board of the Land Use, Forestry and Value Chain Development Project (FORLAND).

Dr Abbasi explained that one of the important agendas of the session is to review and discuss the Draft Work Plan and Budget for the year 2026/2027, which will guide priorities, activities and resource use for the coming year.
Dr Abbasi urged the delegates to provide their professional input to ensure the project continues to be inclusive, environmentally friendly and economically beneficial to the community, while promoting the conservation and better management of the country’s forest resources.
“Together we can build a strong forest-based economy for the benefit of people and the environment,” he said.
The session was held today, June 22, 2026 at the National College of Tourism (NCT) Dar es Salaam.
