Dr Mwinyi lands in Kenya to represent President Samia at the 11th International Ocean Conference

MOMBASA: ZANZIBAR  President and the Chairman of the Zanzibar Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has arrived in Mombasa for a two-day working visit during which he will represent Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 11th International Ocean Conference being held in Kenya.

Dr Mwinyi arrived at Moi International Airport on June 17, 2026, accompanied by his wife, Mariam Mwinyi, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ngwaru Maghembe, and other government officials.

Upon arrival, Dr Mwinyi was received by Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Creative Economy and Youth Affairs, Salim Mvurya, Zanzibar’s Minister for Blue Economy and Fisheries, Masoud Ali Mohamed, and Tanzania’s Ambassador to Kenya, Bernard Yohana Kibesse.

The visit comes at a time when countries around the world are intensifying discussions on ocean conservation, the sustainable use of marine resources, and strategies to address the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems.

During the 11th Our Ocean Conference, heads of state, environmental experts, blue economy stakeholders, and international organizations are expected to discuss measures to strengthen ocean governance, enhance marine conservation efforts, and unlock economic opportunities linked to aquatic and marine resources.

The conference is regarded as one of the leading global platforms for advancing international cooperation on ocean sustainability and promoting the blue economy as a driver of economic growth and environmental protection.
