UDOM students exposed to national emergency response systems

DODOMA: STUDENTS pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Disaster Risk Management at the University of Dodoma (UDOM) have undertaken a field study visit to key government disaster management facilities as part of practical training aimed at strengthening their professional competence.

The two-day visit, which was organised to deepen students’ understanding of national disaster management systems, hazard surveillance, early warning dissemination, and emergency response coordination.

During the tour, the students visited the Emergency Operations and Communications Centre at Ngome, the Disaster Monitoring and Early Warning Unit in Mtumba, and the construction site of the National Disaster Management Centre and Emergency Equipment Warehouse in Nzughuni, Dodoma.

Addressing the students, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities), Dr Jim Yonazi, commended their commitment to practical learning, noting that such exposure is vital for building a competent disaster management workforce.

He encouraged them to complement their academic studies with research, innovation, and scholarly publications that can contribute to strengthening national resilience in disaster prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery.

Dr Yonazi further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to collaborating with higher learning institutions in advancing disaster management training and professional development.

He also expressed readiness to engage directly with students and academics at the UDOM through future lectures and academic forums.
