Tanzania announces July 1, 2026, as proof of digital payment for major assets; land, buildings, motor vehicles

DODOMA: THE Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar has announced that from July 1, 2026, proof of digital payment will become a mandatory requirement for the transfer of major assets, including land, buildings and motor vehicles.

He made the announcement today, June 11, 2026,  in Dodoma when presenting the 2026/27 Budget to parliamentarians noting that all transactions involving the transfer of such assets must be supported by verifiable digital payment records before approval can be granted.

The new measure will require public institutions responsible for processing ownership transfers to verify digital payment evidence as part of the approval process.

The institutions include the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development, the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), the Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA), and other relevant authorities.
