DAR ES SALAAM: Tanzania and Singapore are set to deepen economic and diplomatic relations following the arrival of Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam for a three day state visit.

Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam’s visit to Tanzania aims to expand cooperation in trade, investment, the digital economy, port development, and infrastructure.

Upon his arrival, he was accompanied by First Lady Jane Ittogi.

The three day state visit, which began today, will end on Wednesday this week, marking the first state visit by a Singaporean Head of State since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1980.

The Singaporean leader was received at Julius Nyerere International Airport by Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, alongside other senior government officials, including Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila.

During the visit, President Tharman is scheduled to hold official talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan at State House in Dar es Salaam. The discussions will focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in key sectors such as trade, investment, the digital economy, education, skills development, tourism, port management, and infrastructure.

The visit is regarded as a significant milestone in Tanzania Singapore relations and reflects growing interest in enhancing economic partnerships between the two nations.

President Tharman will also participate in the Tanzania Singapore Business and Investment Forum, which is expected to bring together business leaders and investors from both countries to explore new investment opportunities and partnerships.

As part of his itinerary, the Singapore President will travel to Zanzibar for talks with Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi on areas of mutual interest and cooperation.

Officials say the visit is expected to unlock new avenues for economic collaboration and further strengthen the long standing friendship between Tanzania and Singapore for the benefit of their citizens.
