Algiers Trade Fair lures Tanzania’s business firms to seek global trade linkages through it

ALGIERS: TANZANIA’S Ambassador to Algeria has invited businesspeople to participate in the 57th Algiers International Fair (FIA) scheduled for June 22–27, 2026 which aims at expanding market access and strengthening international trade linkages.
The envoy made the call following his visit to the ongoing African Trade Fair officially opened on June 6, 2026, in Algiers by Algeria’s Minister for Foreign Trade, Kamel Rezig.
The current African Trade Fair has attracted companies from Algeria and 27 African countries, setting the stage for an even larger global event expected to bring together around 700 companies from more than 40 countries.
Ambassador Matinyi said the FIA, organised by Algeria’s state-owned Fair and Export Company (SAFEX), presents a major opportunity for Tanzanian traders to access new markets, form business partnerships, enhance innovation and sign commercial agreements across key sectors.
He noted that priority sectors include agriculture and livestock, manufacturing, mining, energy, transport, construction, tourism, finance and services.
During the ongoing exhibition, one of the notable participants was Jordan’s Riad Hanieh Food Supplies, which operates a branch in Tanzania and exports exclusively Tanzanian agricultural products such as coffee, cashew nuts, cloves, spices and vanilla to international markets.
Ambassador Matinyi also held talks with officials from GETEX, an Algerian state-owned company, where both sides agreed to explore investment opportunities in Tanzania’s leather sector.
GETEX representatives expressed interest in visiting Tanzania to source raw hides and assess the feasibility of establishing a leather processing plant to supply its industries in Algeria.
“We will go to Tanzania to source hides and explore the possibility of establishing a leather processing factory there for our industries here in Algeria,” said Abdelkader Hamdi Mansour, Advisor and Assistant to the Director General of GETEX.
Ambassador Matinyi further encouraged Tanzanian traders and investors interested in the Algerian market to seek detailed guidance from the embassies of both countries, TanTrade, or relevant government ministries.
The initiative reflects Tanzania’s broader strategy to expand its export footprint and strengthen trade diplomacy across global markets.
