Tanzania embarks on nationwide exercise to upgrade humanitarian services ahead of AFCON finals

DAR ES SALAAM: TANZANIA builds momentum toward AFCON 2027 preparations, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism has launched a nationwide exercise to upgrade the quality of accommodation and food services to meet international standards.
A statement from the ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism in Dar es Salaam today, May 25, 2026, stated that the exercise, which focuses on classification and grading of hospitality services, is being led by Director of Tourism in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Thereza Mugobi alongside technical experts.
“The initiative is targeting hotel owners and tourism stakeholders, who are being urged to take advantage of the process as the country positions itself to host and benefit from major continental events such as AFCON 2027,” the ministry stated.

Additionally, the ministry said that the exercise is free of charge and will be conducted using internationally recognised standards approved by member states of the East African Community (EAC).
“The standards have been integrated into an electronic system known as AserT, which allows hospitality stakeholders to register and undergo quality assessment for grading purposes,” the ministry said.
According to the ministry, the programme is aimed at improving service delivery, boosting competitiveness in the tourism sector, and ensuring Tanzania’s hospitality industry meets global expectations ahead of the continental tournament.
