T9 Magazine highlights economic fortunes coming with AFCON 2027

DAR ES SALAAM: AS Tanzania gears up to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), T9 Company has launched a strategic campaign to encourage Tanzanians to seize the economic opportunities expected to come with the continental football showpiece through the introduction of the T9 Magazine Opportunity Plus.

Speaking during its launch today, May 22, 2026, in Dar es Salaam, the T9 Chief Executive Officer, Othman Razak, said AFCON is not only about football but also a major platform for business, tourism and investment capable of transforming the lives of many Tanzanians.

“AFCON is the beginning of huge opportunities. We want Tanzanians to understand how they can benefit from the influx of visitors from across Africa and other parts of the world,” said Razak, while calling on stakeholders, companies and institutions to use the platform to promote their businesses and opportunities.

He said the magazine has been specially designed to showcase sectors expected to benefit from the tournament, including hotels, transport, food services, small-scale businesses and tourism.

“Today is a very important and joyful day for us as we launch a magazine with great benefits, covering economy, health and sports. We are following the good example set by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in promoting people-centred development,” he said.

Razak noted that Tanzanians should begin preparing themselves to benefit economically from AFCON, adding that T9 will serve as a bridge connecting business people and stakeholders on how best to tap into the available opportunities.

He further said both the magazine and the T9 website will continue providing information on sports development, business and investment opportunities, while revealing that another edition of the magazine is expected next month.

On his part, Clouds Media sports journalist, David Kampista, said the magazine will help open people’s minds to opportunities linked to sports and AFCON.

“This magazine will broaden people’s understanding of the opportunities available. It is important for everyone to embrace new ideas because sports has now become part of the economy,” he said.

In retrospect, TBC sports reporter, Malyo Njedengwa said the huge investments made in the country’s ports have positioned Tanzania as a key trade gateway for East and Central Africa, a factor expected to attract more businesspeople and visitors during AFCON.

“When you talk about AFCON, you are talking about enormous opportunities. Hotels will benefit, transport services will expand and even small businesses such as food vendors, coffee sellers and transport operators will gain more customers before and after matches,” he said.

Malyo added that through the magazine, visitors coming to Tanzania will be able to access important information on tourist attractions, hotels and various services available in the country, a move expected to boost tourism and the economy at large.
