Airtel, Huawei strengthen partnership to advance Tanzania’s digital transformation

DAR ES SALAAM: TELECOMMUNICATIONS company Airtel Tanzania and technology firm Huawei have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening communication services in Tanzania through modern technologies and innovation showcased during the Huawei Mini Mobile World Congress (Mini MWC).

The two companies said their growing partnership is focused on accelerating digital transformation, expanding network coverage and improving customer experience through advanced telecommunications solutions.
Speaking during the Huawei Mini Mobile Congress held in Tanzania on May 12, Airtel Tanzania Managing Director, Charles Kamoto, said the partnership continues to play a key role in supporting the country’s rapidly evolving digital economy.

“It is truly a pleasure to join you today as we explore the future of telecommunications, digital transformation and the evolving opportunities within our market and across the region,” he said.

The summit brought together executives and technical teams from both companies to discuss future technologies aimed at improving service delivery and strengthening Tanzania’s telecommunications infrastructure.

Among the strategic areas discussed were growth in mobile and home broadband services, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered core networks, microwave network evolution and future-oriented intelligent transmission systems.

Through the partnership, Airtel Tanzania and Huawei also explored advanced wireless and AI solutions intended to expand network access, improve service stability, enhance customer experience and reduce energy consumption within telecommunications systems.

Kamoto said adoption of next-generation technologies would support wider data usage and sustainable business growth while positioning Airtel as a leading digital telecommunications company in the country.
“We remain focused and ambitious as we drive Airtel’s mission forward through innovation and inclusion,” he said.

Huawei, on its part, said the partnership with Airtel Tanzania would remain an important pillar in Tanzania’s digital transformation journey.

The company also commended Airtel Tanzania’s management for participating in strategic discussions aimed at advancing the country’s telecommunications sector and promoting adoption of emerging technologies.

Mini MWC is a special platform organised by Huawei Tanzania to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to experience innovative technologies showcased during the global Mobile World Congress held annually in Barcelona, Spain.

The platform also enables players in the communications sector to discuss emerging technology trends and the growing use of AI in improving communication services across the country.

Huawei executives who attended the summit included President of Bharti Group Key Account Department, Jack Huang, and Deputy Managing Director Sales Huawei Tanzania, Galving Gao.

The congress comes at a time when Tanzania’s telecommunications sector continues to record strong growth in broadband connectivity, digital services and data consumption, driven by increasing demand for reliable and affordable internet services.
