DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has announced that the volume of honey exported has increased by 67.85 percent in 2025, reflecting growth in the beekeeping sector and rising competitiveness of the product in the global market.

The statement was made on May 15, 2026 by the Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr Ashatu Kijaji, while presenting the ministry’s revenue and expenditure estimates for the 2026/27 financial year in Parliament in Dodoma.

Dr Kijaji said honey exports increased from 951.6 tonnes in 2024 to 1,596.8 tonnes in 2025.

She further noted that the value of honey exports rose from 11.4bn/- in 2024 to 19.2bn/- in 2025, representing a 68.4 percent increase.

According to the minister, Tanzanian honey has maintained an average compliance rate of 97 percent with European Union quality standards for three consecutive years, a performance that has helped open and expand international markets including the United States, European Union member states, the United Arab Emirates, and China.

She said these achievements are the result of various government efforts implemented in collaboration with beekeepers and development partners to increase the production of high-quality honey that meets international standards.

Dr Kijaji added that, for the first time, Tanzanian honey has successfully entered the United Kingdom market after meeting the required standards.

She noted that one of the key drivers of this success has been the implementation of a robust chemical residue control system in honey to ensure product quality and safety in international markets.
