Promo films boost Tanzania tourism

MANYARA: TOURISM stakeholders in Tanzania are reporting notable gains following intensified international promotion through the films “Royal Safari” and “Royal Tour.” The films have opened new opportunities in the sector and boosted tourist arrivals from across the globe.

A tourism stakeholder based in Arusha, Mr Elibariki Sumari, whose company links international travellers with local tour operators, said the films have played a key role in revitalising the industry.

Mr Sumari made the remarks recently at the main entrance of the Mount Hanang Nature Forest Reserve, operated by the Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS), where he had accompanied a group of tourists.

The group was preparing to climb Mount Hanang, Tanzania’s fourth-highest peak, rising 3,423 metres above sea level. “I commend President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her efforts in promoting tourism through ‘Royal Safari’ and ‘Royal Tour.’ These films have opened new opportunities and attracted visitors from different parts of the world,” he explained.

The films have showcased Tanzania’s rich tourism attractions, enhanced the country’s international image and stimulated investment and tourist arrivals, contributing to economic growth and job creation. Mr Sumari also called on Tanzanians to embrace domestic tourism, noting that the country is endowed with diverse attractions, including those found on Mount Hanang.

“These films have expanded our horizons. As we approach 2027, when we expect even more tourists, we must continue improving infrastructure, especially roads, to enhance access to these destinations,” he explained.

Mr Sumari stressed that while investment in tourism is increasing, strong participation by local tourists remains essential to sustaining growth and attracting more international visitors.

“We need to visit and experience these attractions ourselves so we can identify areas that require improvement to better woo foreign tourists,” he added.

Another tourism stakeholder, Mr Hashim Nkya from Arusha, said climbing Mount Hanang had been a long-time ambition, despite having previously climbed mountains such as Mount Meru and Mount Longido. “I am here with my colleagues to climb Mount Hanang. I encourage fellow Tanzanians to embrace domestic tourism, as our country offers many remarkable attractions worth exploring,” he said.
