STAMICO intensifies investment in large-scale nickel, salt projects in Southern Tanzania

NACHINGWEA: THE State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) has continued to intensify investment in large-scale nickel and salt projects aimed at creating jobs, boosting national revenue and improving livelihoods in southern Tanzania.
STAMICO Managing Director, Dr Venance Mwasse made the statement during his inspection visit to the nickel mining and processing project in Nditi Village, Nachingwea District in Lindi region on Thursday stating that the developments are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the mining sector as a key pillar of the economy.
Dr Mwasse’s inspection also included a value addition plant and a mine operated under a joint venture between STAMICO and Coast Nickel Company.

Speaking at the site, he commended the company for establishing a nickel flotation plant with the capacity to process over 300 tonnes per day, while urging expansion of production capacity to 1,000 tonnes and beyond as operations grow.
During the tour, he also inspected mining activities, processing operations and storage facilities used before transportation of nickel products while emphasizing the need for strict adherence to occupational safety, health, environmental standards and continuous staff training to ensure modern and efficient production systems.
“It is also important to improve the working conditions of employees, including housing, food services and recreational facilities, to enhance productivity and workforce retention,” he said.
