Over 50 nations coming to Tanzania for the UN-backed APTC Conference

DAR ES SALAAM: MORE than 50 nations are expected to participate in the 30th International Association of Peacekeeping Training Colleges (IAPTC) Conference to be held in November,2026 in Tanzania, with the aim of discussing ways to improve and innovate in peacekeeping operations around the world under the auspices of the United Nations (UN).

Speaking to reporters while opening the preparatory session of the IAPTC Executive Committee, the Chairman of the session from Italy, Brigadier General Andrea Paris said that the conference usually brings together between 50 and 60 nations, while the association as a whole has members from about 90 countries around the world.

He said the main objective of the conference is to evaluate the work of the association throughout the year and identify new ways to strengthen peacekeeping operations so that they can be more effective in a world with many security challenges.

Regarding the challenges facing some peacekeeping training centers, including the shortage of human resources and equipment, Brigadier General Paris said that the centers continue to collaborate by exchanging experts, experiences and ideas even outside of official meetings, with the aim of finding common solutions to challenges that arise in areas of operation.

He explained that peacekeeping training centers have an important role in today’s world, as they have a role in building the capacity of peacekeepers so that they can carry out their roles more effectively in bringing stability and peace to the world.

He also said that during the 30 years of the existence of IAPTC, great achievements have been achieved in bringing innovation to peacekeeping operations, raising new ideas for international organizations as well as setting common performance standards for soldiers, police and civilians participating in such operations.

Speaking about the reasons for choosing Tanzania to host this year’s conference, he said that the country is blessed with a good environment and has all the qualities that deserve to host such an important international conference.

For his part, the Director of the Tanzania Peacekeeping Training College (TPTC), Brigadier General George Itang’are said that Tanzania has been given the honor of hosting the 30th conference and that the opportunity did not come by chance but is a result of Tanzania’s significant contribution to peacekeeping operations around the world.

Speaking about the preparations for the conference, Brigadier General Itang’are said that Tanzania’s contribution to the global peace and security agenda is internationally recognized, which has earned the country the honor of hosting this important conference that is expected to bring together peacekeeping stakeholders from various countries around the world.

He said that through TPTC, Tanzania has been taking steps to demonstrate its commitment to supporting international efforts to bring about peace, and that is the basis that enabled the country to be given the opportunity to host this historic conference.

Regarding Tanzania’s contribution to supporting African countries experiencing conflicts, he said that the responsibility for national security remains with the respective country, but as a member of the United Nations, Tanzania will continue to be ready to contribute when needed in efforts to restore peace.

However, he said that the success of the meeting would not be achieved without the cooperation of the delegates and members of the committee, calling on each participant to contribute their experience and strength to ensure that the November meeting is a great success.

Furthermore, he stressed that the role of peacekeeping training centers is important in preparing professionals and peacekeeping forces, to ensure that international peace operations are carried out with professionalism and great efficiency.
