OGTL calls for more clean energy use education

DAR ES SALAAM:THE Oryx Gas Tanzania (OGTL) has called for concerted efforts in strengthening public awareness education on clean energy use.

The company’s Marketing and Sales Manager Shaban Fundi stressed that it is essential for citizens to understand how to use clean cooking energy,”

He made the remarks yesterday when speaking during the launch of a dedicated Oryx gas cylinder outlet in the Banana area in Dar es Salaam, saying they recognize the government’s efforts to promote clean energy.

He said the company”s strategy is to continue supporting the government’s efforts to promote the use of clean cooking energy, while also emphasizing the importance of continuous public education so that users can better understand how to use clean energy effectively.

To implement this strategy, the company announced plans to establish special retail outlets aimed at encouraging the public to adopt clean energy by bringing services closer to communities.

At the same time, these outlets will provide education on the proper and safe use of clean cooking energy.

“Oryx Gas is a leader in clean cooking energy, and we have joined forces to support the government’s initiatives to ensure clean cooking energy reaches all citizens. We understand the government’s goal that by 2030, at least 80 percent of Tanzanians should be using clean cooking energy.
“The opening of these special outlets is a continuation of our collaboration in supporting both government and citizens. Clean energy is not a luxury—it is a necessity. People must have access to clean cooking energy, and as Oryx, we have continued to improve our storage, reception, and distribution infrastructure to ensure services reach the community,” he said.

“When customers visit our outlets, they will receive guidance on how to use our gas cylinders effectively. In addition, Oryx Gas has introduced a service where, after purchasing, customers do not need to carry the cylinder themselves. They can leave their phone number, and we will deliver it to their location at our own cost,” he explained.

He added that to ensure timely access to clean energy, the company continues to expand its network of outlets, noting that there are currently 1,000 such shops nationwide, with more being opened—including the Banana outlet operated by NASSCO and another recently opened in Masenze.

Meanwhile, Tarik Nassoro, Director of NASSCO, an Oryx Gas agent, said that in collaboration with Oryx, they have opened outlets in various parts of Ilala District.

He urged Tanzanians to continue using Oryx gas and to move away from energy sources that harm the environment.

At the same time, food vendors Dickson Kuga and Beatrice Shayo called on fellow vendors across the country to adopt clean cooking energy, noting that it saves time and does not pose health risks like firewood and charcoal.
