UCSAF targets network gaps in Mkomazi National Park
DODOMA: THE government has stepped up efforts to improve communication services in strategic tourism areas, with plans underway to expand network coverage in Mkomazi National Park.
Deputy Minister for Communication and Information Technology Switbert Mkama told the Parliament that the Universal Communications Service Access Fund (UCSAF) has already identified key locations within the park facing connectivity challenges.
He was responding to a question from Special Seats MP Zuwena Bushiri, who sought to know the government’s plans to install mobile communication towers in the conservation area.
Mr Mkama said a detailed assessment has been conducted and several priority areas identified, including Kamkota Gate, Kimango Gate, Mkomazi View Camp and Ndea Gate.

“These areas have been identified as having communication challenges and will be prioritised for intervention,” he said.
He explained that the rollout will be implemented under Phase 11 of UCSAF projects, which focuses on expanding communication infrastructure in strategic locations.
The phase targets areas of economic and national importance, including tourist attractions, national parks, border areas and major transport corridors.
“These include railway lines such as the Meter Gauge Railway (MGR), the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA),” he said.
